AUSTIN -- The Long Center is turning up the volume as "Rock of Ages" takes to the stage.
The jukebox musical playing the hits of the 80s runs Sept 25-30, cranking out the high-decibel songs of Journey, Pat Benetar, Whitesnake, and Foreigner, among others.
The love story set on the Sunset Strip in 1987 centers on Sherri, the small-town girl with dreams of making it big in Hollywood. Dominique Scott plays Drew, Sherri's soft-hearted, head-banging love interest.
"I was in New York just a couple months ago busing tables with big hopes and dreams just like Drew. And just like Drew... things are coming together," says Scott. "Unlike me though, Drew is very hesitant and lacks the confidence to pursue his dreams or even talk to women. The hesitancy trait he's got going is a ton of fun to play."
But sticking to the script verbatim just wouldn't be rock n' roll.
"I love improv and getting to fool around with the audience is in fact one of my favorite aspects in getting to do Rock of Ages every day," Scott adds.
