April 15th is Emancipation Day, a Washington, DC holiday that recognizes the freeing of slaves in the district. So the IRS will be closed that day.
That means you get an extra three days, or an extra weekend to file your tax returns. So mark your calendar for April 18th, that’s the official day your taxes will be due this year.
