If you're hoping to reserve an appliance rebate set your alarm early Wednesday, April 7th. The state's Rebate Reservation line opens at 7am CT. The number to call is (877) 780-3039. On that day you can also reserve a rebate online here.
You cannot begin purchasing the appliances until April 16th. For refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers and room air conditioners, the purchase period ends April 25, 2010. For central air conditioners, hot water heaters and heat pumps, the purchase period ends 60 days from the rebate reservation or wait list request date; this allows contractors, who install these items, to collect payment at installation. Central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps will require installation by a Texas Department of Licensing and Registration (TDLR) licensed contractor.
Here is something to keep in mind: once all the guaranteed rebates are reserved, you can still sign up. You’ll be put on a waiting list for any guaranteed rebates that go unused.
Disposal of the old, functional appliance of the same type is required for all rebate applications. There is an additional $75 rebate for recycling the old appliance. Proof of disposal or recycling requires the signature and address of the entity (such as a retailer, contractor or other business) assuming responsibility for the proper disposal or recycling — details will be provided on the rebate application form.
You can find a list of partner recycling agents here.
Recycling is not limited to the entities on the courtesy list. The Web site also has a list of eligible appliances, category amounts, time lines, frequently asked questions and helpful tips.
If you miss taking advantage of the rebate remember the state of Texas holds an Energy Star Tax free weekend over the Memorial Day weekend. That means you can save state and local taxes on energy star items you purchase May 29th through May 31st, 2010.
