For whatever reason the FDA’s pet food recall site has only been updated through October 1st. I've asked why that's the case and will let you know when I hear back.
Blue Buffalo is voluntarily recalling some of its dog food because it may contain higher levels of Vitamin D which can be harmful to pets.
There are three dry dog foods that are part of this recall. They include:
| Product | Bag Size | Best Used by Dates |
| BLUE WIlderness Chicken (Dog) | 4.5lb., 11lb., 24lb. | JUL1211B, JUL1311B, JUL2611Z, JUL2711Z, JUL2811Z |
| BLUE Basics Salmon (Dog) | 11lb., 24lb. | AUG2111B, AUG2211B |
| BLUE Large Breed Adult Chicken | 30lb. | SEP2211P, SEP2311P, OCT2611P |
The company has already pulled these from stores shelves, but if you received one of these bags before then you should stop feeding your pet the food and call 1-877-523-9114 to arrange to return the product and get your money back.
The company says it discovered that its original supplier produced a Vitamin D supplement immediately prior to preparing the ingredients for the pet food. That resulted in a higher concentration of Vitamin D. That can result in kidney failure.
The company says, “If your dog has shown any adverse reaction to the recalled products, have him checked by your veterinarian. Typical symptoms might include excessive water intake and/or excessive urination, and in some cases vomiting. Blue Buffalo will reimburse any veterinary or testing expenses related to illness caused by these products.”
