You may want to check your spice cabinet. Mincing Overseas Spice Company which supplies product to Frontier Natural Products Co-op is voluntarily recalling nutmeg sold under the Frontier and Whole Foods Market brand because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The FDA says the nutmeg was sold in all states in bulk under the Frontier brand (16 oz) and in 1.92 oz. containers of Whole Foods 365.
No illnesses have been reported.
However, symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include nausea, fever, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. It’s particularly dangerous sometimes fatal in young children, elderly or people with weakened immune systems.
