My husband and I always spend a pretty penny going home to visit family. So I’m always looking for ways to cut costs. And I found a few new websites that I think might help you save some money if you have plans to travel this summer.

Rental Car Savings

The first is a great web site to help you save money on rental cars. It’s a new site that launched within the last two weeks. It’s called Auto Slash.com.

According to CEO Jonathan Weinberg the site launched May 8th. The site is different than other car rental sites in that it scours all the vendors, compares coupons and discount codes to find the best rental car deals for you.

Weinberg says, “We’ve signed up for all the mailing lists and we figure out the best discounts. Once you book, we keep looking and there’s a 25 to 30 percent chance that we can lower your rate even further.”

So if the rate drops after you book, you get the cheaper price. You don’t need your credit card to reserve a car, which means you can cancel at any time. Have a club card? Just check the box there on the front page and it will factor in that savings for you as well.

The site also has an entire section devoted to coupons in case you want to check out the deals yourself.

I asked Weinberg how the site makes money. He said the site gets commission on each booking from the rental car companies and it makes money through paid advertising which you’ll see on the site.

I shared this site with my co-anchor Tyler last week and he said it by far found the best rates of any of the sites he searched. The thing I like about it is that it’s a great way to check prices across a lot of different sites without having to do the work.

Hotel Savings

Looking to save money on a hotel room? Check out Quikbook.com. This is a great site that finds unadvertised hotel deals.  It’s been around for a few years and has been named a best site by Forbes for three years running. It lists hotel amenities, the proximity to shopping and entertainment and has comments from people who’ve stayed there before.

Another good site to check out is Hotels Combined.com. It’s been around since 2005 and provides searches for deals on more than 30 different travel sites. You can sort by price, location and popularity. It also tells you the taxes and fees.

Both of these sites are worth checking out if you’re trying to save some money.

Travel on a budget

Have a limited budget and don't know where you want to go? Check out this new tool from Kayak. You enter your home airport, your price range, and the rough travel time and it gives you a nice map of the places you can go for that amount of money.
