Honda announced it is expanding a recall for the second time to include an additional 378,758 cars because of potential airbag problems. The company says the driver’s airbag inflator may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and injure or kill the driver.

The company is aware of 12 incidents related to this issue. The original recall  was issued in November 2008 and involved fewer than 4,000 2001 Accord and Civics.

Since then the company has learned of two more incidents including a fatality of a person driving a vehcile not included in that original recall. The first expanded recall took place in July 2009. At that time the company expanded the recall to include 440,000 2001 and 2002 Honda Accords and Civics and certain 2002 Acura TL vehicles.

This latest expansion affects certain 2001 and 2002 Accord, Civic, Odyssey, CR-V and selected 2002 Acura TL vehicles as well as one Honda Pilot and one Acura CL vehcile produced in late 2002.

Owners will begin being notified this month and car owners should take their cars in to be repaired.

Honda owners can find more information on the Honda recall web site or or call (800) 999-1009.

Acura owners can learn more on the Acura recall web site or call (800) 382-2238.

Remember you can always check to see if your car, your child's car seat or your tires have been involved in a recall here.
