This week you'll find free car seat safety check sites, some free music and some free Kindle books. Thanks to all of those viewers who continue to send me great ideas. If you spot a deal you'd like me to mention drop me an e-mail so I can share it with others.
Free car seat safety checks
Some studies have shown as many as 8 of every 10 car seats are installed improperly. So it’s a good idea to get a certified specialist to check your child’s car seat. There will be a free car seat safety check next Tuesday, March 9th at Dell Children’s Medical Center located at 4900 Mueller Blvd. You do need an appointment so call 512-324-TOTS. There are several coming up in March throughout the Austin are. You can find those locations here.
You can also check here for more Texas locations.
For those of you who don’t live in the Austin area you can find information on free car seat safety checks across the country here.

Throughout March in addition to the validated parking program in the city hall garage, 2nd Street District Businesses are offering two-hour free parking, with retail validation, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm in both the AMLI Downtown and AMLI on 2ND parking garages. For a map of the parking entrance, click here. Just visit any one of our 2nd Street District businesses and they'll stamp your parking garage card to validate you for two free hours of parking. Reach for the Stars
Barbra sent me an e-mail about this great upcoming event at The Wildflower Center. It's part of the Nature Nights series -- monthly, low-cost family nights for spring. They begin with an astronomy night this Friday, March 5 from 6pm to 9pm. These astronomy nights are so popular they host them twice a year, with help from local astronomy experts. Admission is $1, members get in free.
Tom Montemayor from the outreach education staff of the University’s McDonald Observatory provides an engaging astronomy lecture in the Auditorium at 7 and 8 p.m. Field telescope viewing led by the Austin Astronomical Society occurs in a meadow reachable by trails from the main center grounds. Astronomy crafts for kids will be provided in the Visitors Gallery that include making a star map. Flyers about celestial myths and folklore will also be available there, or you can hear artist T. J. Mabrey discuss these topics in the McDermott Learning Center.
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is located at 4801 La Crosse Avenue. You can find directions here.

I’m not sure if you know this but a lot of the home improvement stores offer terrific kid workshops on the weekends for free. Susan reminded me of this in a recent e-mail.
Home Depot offers them on the first Saturday of every month between 9am and noon and they’re free. This weekend children will build their own rain gage.
Lowe’s offers the same types of classes on Saturdays at 10am. Be sure to check the website for a schedule near you. In one of the upcoming classes children can build a tabletop basketball game.
