This week you’ll find a way to get free landscaping advice, great free things to do with your grandchildren and a few more freebies. Remember if you ever spot a deal send me an e-mail.

Free Valentine’s Day Cards

Buy a dozen Krispy Kreme sprinkled heart, triple chocolate or heart with red drizzle doughnuts through February 14th and get 12 free Valentine’s Day cards. This offer is good while supplies last and you can find the participating stores here.

Free tree advice and Texas tree and shrub sale

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is offering free admission through the month of January. And this Saturday, January 23rd from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. you can get tree pruning tips and other advice from. Besides walks and talks, native Texas trees and shrubs will also be on sale in the central Courtyard. Thanks to Barbra for letting me know.

You can take guided walks from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and learn tips on topics such as: good native flowering tree options, landscape design and tree maintenance. Among the 30 species of plants for sale – many in rootmaker pots – will be hard-to-find options such as Retama, West Texas Emory Oak and Montezuma cypress.

 Here’s the complete Saturday schedule:

11 a.m. – General tour of the Wildflower Center woody plants

11 a.m. - Ornamental Texas Trees for Your Landscape – Ginger Hudson, landscape designer, author of the “Handbook of Maintenance for Central Texas Landscapes”

12 p.m. - Tree Planting Demonstration – Staff from TreeFolks, and Phillip Schulze, Wildflower Center gardener technician

1 p.m. - Maintaining the Health of Your Trees – Guy LaBlanc, arborist and owner of Arbor Vitae Tree Care

2 p.m. – Fuel For Thought: Wildfire Prevention in the Landscape – Nevic Donnelly, arborist and owner, They Might Be Monkeys! Texas Tree and Land Company

3 p.m. – Oak Wilt I.D. In Your Neighborhood – Chris Dolan, City of Austin Oak Wilt Suppression Program

100 Free things to do with your Grandkids

Grandparents.com has created a list of 100 free things to do with your grandchildren and you can download it free. Some of the suggestions are obvious, but there are some cute suggestions with things you likely have sitting around your home.

Free potty training kit

Pampers is giving away free potty training kits that come with a free sample of Easy Ups Trainers. Thanks to Susan for sharing! When you sign up for this know that you may receive more e-mail from products they think you will like. So if you have an account you don’t use on a regular basis you may want to sign up using that. And these are only good as long as supplies last.

Travel Deals

Southwest Airlines is offering new deals as low as $49 one-way. You need to buy your tickets by Thursday, January 21st and travel April 7 through May 25th.

Amtrak has a deal if you take three trips through March 13th and get one trip free.

Another good site for promotional codes

Andrea sent me an e-mail about a site called Promotionalcodes.com. On this one you’ll find promotional codes for all kinds of web sites including a section for Valentine’s Day. One of my other favorite promotional code sites is Retail  me not.com.

Whole Foods Deal

Whole Foods offers up deals like this on a regular basis. Now through January 27th at the Austin Whole Foods locations if you buy one pound of oven roasted turkey breast from the deli, you'll get a half a pound of cheddar cheese, a loaf of bread and a bag of Gala Apples free. Thanks Micah for the tip!
