Starting Thursday, August 1st through Sunday, August 4th, kids can eat for free at Macaroni Grill with the purchase of one adult entrée. The Austin Symphony holds concerts in the park all summer long. This coming Sunday, August 4th there is a strings concert. These free ensemble concerts take place in the Hartman Concert Park in front of the Long Center City Terrace and start at 7:30pm.
Children’s Day Art Park- This is the final week and Lucas Miller provides the music. These family friendly events take place most Wednesdays at 9:30am. For just 50 cents per child, kids and adults experience the arts at Symphony Square, 1101 Red River Street. The programs feature local musicians, dancers, storytellers, magicians, mimes and crafts. Youngsters can visit the Instrument Petting Zoo (where they can see, touch and try to play the instruments), talk to symphony musicians and hear them play their instruments, and try their hands at different art projects under the Art Tent.
City Lights Theaters in Georgetown (420 Wolf Ranch Parkway) are having a family film festival all summer long. The next movie is Rango and will show Tuesday, August 6th. Doors open at 9am, movie starts at 9:30am. Seating is limited. Movies cost 50 cents and the proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club. You can also get kid’s popcorn and drink for $3.50.
Cinemark has a fun summer movie clubhouse. This week, Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 1 at 10am you can catch Rio for $1 or pay $5 and get a pass for 10 films. Locations include: Cinemark Tinseltown 17, 5501 S IH-35 and Cinemark Movie 8, 2132 N. Mays, Round Rock; Cinemark Hill Country Galleria, 12812 Hill Country Blvd.; Cinemark Cedar Park, 1890 Ranch Shopping Center, 1335 E. Whitestone Blvd., Cedar Park.
Austin Sound & Cinema is featuring six weeks of unique pairings of live music and some of the most popular movies of all time. Bands will perform a tribute to the movie, followed by the film screening on The Alamo’s giant inflatable outdoor screen. This will take place on the lawn at The Long Center. The events are free, all-ages, open to the public, and will fall on alternating Wednesdays through August 21. Concerts begin at 8pm with the movies to follow. This Wed. July 31: "School of Rock" featuring the Zeppelin Show performed by WILL TAYLOR & STRINGS ATTACHED.
This is the 20th Anniversary for 93.3 KGSR's Unplugged at the Grove concert series. This week, Thursday, August 1st you can enjoy the music of Ray Wylie Hubbard. Remeber every Thursday September 19th you can visit Shady Grove on Barton Springs Road. Om Shanti Bollywood Day is coming to the Long Center on Saturday, August 3, 2013, from 5 - 7 p.m. A free family friendly festival with food and craft vendors, music, dance numbers, and sneak peeks of what audiences can expect from the production’s celebrated arrival to the stage. The evening culminates at 7:00pm, with an all-out Bollywood assault, as participants attempt to break the existing record of 1336 dancers. For more information, go here.
