Food Deals

Austin Restaurant Week runs again this week, April 14th-17th. This is your chance to get fixed priced menus and some of Austin's best restaurants and to help out the Food Bank. Enjoy two-course pre-fixe menu pricing for lunches from $12-17, three-course pre-fixe dinners at $27 or $37, and brunches at select locations for $17! Meals on Wheels and More has returned as the charity beneficiary this Fall, and every Austin Restaurant Week meal donates $2 directly to Meals on Wheels and More to support their programs. Go here to see the participating restaurants and to make reservations.

Family fun

93.3 KGSR's Unplugged at the Grove kicks-off its 20th Anniversary season this Thursday, April 11th. The first free concert is with Austin’s own Bob Schneider.  Remember every Thursday for the next 24 weeks you can visit Shady Grove on Barton Springs Road. The live music begins at 8 p.m. For more information and schedule updates, visit the KGSR website or the Unplugged at the Grove Facebook page.

Travis County is hosting a free event this Thursday, April 11th to raise awareness about child abuse. The “Light of Hope” event is free and takes place at the Carver Branch library from 5 to 7pm. There will be free food, giveaways and family activities. Here’s why this is so important:

More than 200 children died at the hands of their parents or caregivers, and more than 64,000 children were abused or neglected in Texas last year.  In Travis County there were 3045 victims of child abuse/neglect in FY 2012.  2 children died due to abuse/neglect.  In Williamson County there were 700 victims of child abuse/neglect in FY 2012.  We can all reduce the terrible toll of child abuse by listening to children and learning the signs of child abuse. See a list of child abuse prevention events on the Events Page of HelpandHope.org. Thanks to Julie Moody. While prevention is best, always report child abuse or neglect. Don't count on someone else to do something.  Report your suspicions to the Texas Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-252-5400 or online at TxAbuseHotline.org.

Thanks to my good friend Rebekah for this tip! Market ReVival is a semi-annual three-day festival featuring an eclectic mix of home-related products. Market ReVival, showcased on the 2.5 acre property encompassing the ReVival store itself, will offer an array of furniture, vintage décor, architectural pieces, local art, garden objects, food, music and more from various vendors both near and far. The market is located at 13308 HWY 71 West, Bee Cave, TX 78738 (near the Hill Country Galleria).  Market ReVival runs Friday, April 12 from 10am - 6pm; Saturday, April 13 from 9am - 7pm; and Sunday, April 14 from 12pm – 5pm.  DIY demos throughout the weekend include La Craie chalk painting demonstrations, and opportunities to learn more about ‘ReVival University’ workshops. Kids of all ages can get a photo with a hand-painted backdrop of Hamlet, ReVival’s resident potbelly pig. Of course, the real Hamlet will be roaming the premises, providing entertainment for the whole family. Parking and admission for Market ReVival is free. For more information, visit http://www.revivaltx.com/.

You'll find a whole list of fun free things to do, including lots of free movie events taking place this week and this weekend at Free Fun in Austin.com.
