Family Fun
Sun Dragon Martial Arts (4534 West Gate Blvd, Austin) and Self Defense , NFP will host FREE kids’ safety classes on September 22, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Sun Dragon dojo. Children will learn to protect themselves from bullying, identify safe adults, and get help when they need it.
On Sunday, September 23, 2012, the Austin Museum Partnership will host the 15th annual Austin Museum Day, a community wide event for which almost 40 of Austin's museums will be open to the public for free! Special activities planned include hands-on activities at various locations. Check out the exhibit 123 Geometry Lane at the Austin Children’s Museum; make your own marionette, see a live theatrical performance, and take part in a scavenger hunt at the Blanton Museum of Art; create a collaborative work of art at the Visual Arts Center; meet women scientists at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center; celebrate life at Mexic-Arte Museum’s annual Day of the Dead exhibition, take in some tunes at the Texas Music Museum; enjoy a healthy MamboBerry treat onsite at AMOA-Arthouse at Laguna Gloria and design your own artist sketchbook. Kids Fitness Fun Day is a FREE community event designed to educate parents and children on the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle. Bring the whole family to Cat Hollow Park on Saturday, September 22, 2012, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. to enjoy fun activities and free food. There will be 12 different stations set up at Kids Fitness Fun Day, each consisting of a single-player physical challenge. For every completed station, the child will be rewarded with a silly band. Those who complete all 12 stations will be rewarded with a “Kids Fitness Fun Day Champ” button and ribbon. Admission to this event is free. It is not required, but if you register online, you will receive a Fit Kids Coupon Book on the day of the event. For more information, visit the event website.
The City of Round Rock's Parks and Recreation Department presents the second annual Family Campout this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21 and 22, at Old Settler’s Park. This is a great excuse to get out and enjoy the great outdoors as a family. There are all kinds of activities planned including rock climbing, lawn games, a reptile and wildlife demonstration, tent decorating contest and more. Registration for the campout is required and each person attending must be registered. Children ages 2 and under are free and do not need to register. Registration fee includes two meals (hamburger/hot dog dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday), instructional how-to sessions, use of demonstration equipment and a t-shirt for each paid participant.
