 This week you’ll find lots of local deals, some terrific family fun savings and more! Enjoy and keep the tips coming!

Family Fun
The YMCA has held these Healthy Kids Days before and they’re doing it again Saturday, April 28th. There will be free community events for kids and their families.

From 8 - 11 a.m., TownLake YMCA will host fun activities and refreshments for the whole family in The state employee parking lot #7 across the street from the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Then, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., other Austin area YMCA locations will host activities to encourage children and their families to adopt behaviors that support a healthy lifestyle, including fitness testing, obstacle courses, bike safety, sports skills challenges, safety information, face painting, arts and crafts and refreshments.

YMCA of Austin Healthy Kids Day locations include:

East Communities YMCA - 5315 Ed Bluestein Blvd., 512-933-YMCA.

Hays Communities YMCA - 465 Buda Sportsplex Dr., 512-523-0099.

North Park Family YMCA - Held at Quail Creek Park - Rutland & Mearns Meadow Blvd., event begins at 10:30 a.m. The first 50 children ages 5-12 will receive a free goodie bag.

Northwest Family YMCA - 5807 McNeil Dr., 335-YMCA - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

TownLake YMCA - Event will take place at the Texas Round-Up 5K & Family Mile, on-site at the Bob Bullock Museum, 1800 N. Congress Avenue.  512-542-YMCA.

Springs Family YMCA - 27216 Ranch Rd. 12 South in Dripping Springs, 512-894-3309. There will be games, water balloon launchers, open swim and pool fun, snacks, and raffle prizes. Don't forget your swim suit and sunscreen! Indoor activities include:

10:30 YouthFit Work Out (all ages welcome; program specifically designed for 6-11)

11:00 Zumba Sample (12+ recommended, but all are welcome)

11:30 Parent-Child Music Sample (for the younger crowd, under 6)

YMCA of Greater Williamson County will also celebrate Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 28, 2012. The free event will take place at the Y locations in Cedar Park, Hutto*,Round Rock and Taylor* from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and feature activities such as health screenings, safety demonstrations, games, inflatables and more. 


The city of Bee Cave is offering plenty of family fun this weekend at their annual SpringFest event. Hill Country Galleria and Shops at the Galleria  will host this free festival on Saturday, April 28th from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.  Arts and crafts vendors will line main street. There will be a boat expo, a BBQ cook-off, and live music all day.  Free concerts start at 12:30 p.m. and continue throughout the afternoon, culminating in a headlining performance by Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis at 5:30 p.m.  Little ones will enjoy moon bounces, face painting, and more at KidZone.  While SpringFest is a free event, you will need to purchase tickets for KidZone attractions and rides.  For free fun, head over to Learning Express Toys in Hill Country Galleria. Meet Elmo from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Meet Darth Vader and Rapunzel from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. The store will have toy demos and a Ride-On Roundup as well.

Head on up to Georgetown this weekend, April 28 and 29, 2012, for the 13th Annual Red Poppy Festival. A Georgetown and Central Texas tradition, the Red Poppy Festival is fun for the whole family, filled with music, friends, food, and fun. The festival opens at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and ends with the Saturday night concert. It reopens at 11 a.m. Sunday morning, and closes at 5 p.m. Sunday night. 

Guests will enjoy artists and artisans from all over the country at the Red Poppy Marketplace, as well as the Open Car Show, a SafePlace Kids Village, and the Saturday Night Concert and Street Dance featuring Johnny Lee and Cory Morrow. The Asian American Community Partnership invites you to take part in the 2012 Austin Dragon Boat Festival this Saturday, April 28, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Festival Beach, on the banks of Lady Bird Lake. 

KLRU is celebrating 50 years of inspiring Austin, with daily local events this week, culminating in a block party on Sunday, April 29, 2012.  Most events are free, although a few require an RSVP.  To see the complete schedule of events, visit the KLRU website.

Austin, TX 78744). Free, no RSVP required. KLRU will feature PBS costume characters plus free books and educational materials in English and Spanish.

·         Sunday, April 29 - KLRU Birthday Party from noon to 4 p.m. on 2nd Street in downtown Austin. Free, no RSVP required. Your favorite PBS characters will be celebrating KLRU's birthday and you're invited! Cookie Monster, Arthur, SuperWhy, Clifford, Maya & Miguel and others will take over 2ND Street for a day of family fun. There will be fun for the whole family including a Central Texas Gardener activity, story time with local celebrities, Arts In Context dance demonstrations and much more. Bring your camera! 

Cedar Park Center announced on Facebook that they are hosting a toy drive.  Bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Cedar Park Center box office to donate and receive a FREE kid’s ticket to Disney On Ice presents Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3!
