Earth Day savings

Also April 21st through the 29th is National Parks Week, where over 100 of the nation's parks will offer free admission. Click here for a list of participating parks, including four in Texas. 

Earth Day Giveaway at Pottery Barn Kids, Saturday, April 21st from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., Barton Creek Mall -- Visit Pottery Barn Kids and receive a free packet of sunflower seeds courtesy of PBK and National Geographic. 2901 South Capital of Texas Hwy.

Austin's Earth Family Fest, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21st, SFC Farmer's Market, Republic Square Park at 422 Guadalupe Street. -- Join in on a family picnic with local food, music, art, alternative education, and activism, along with workshops by The Alternative Education Coalition of Austin and Maya Adjani of Breathe Eat Dance Evolve.

Make a Little Gardener Apron, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 21st,  Lakeshore Learning at 9828 Great Hills Trail, Austin-- Free drop-in activity.  No registration necessary.

Austin Earth Day Festival, noon - 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 22nd, The Historic Browning Hangar at Mueller-- Celebrate Austin as a "city of Green Ideas" in this one-day festival, featuring informative and inspirational speakers and exhibits. Kids can enjoy a petting zoo, puppet show, face painting, and green crafts, and food will be on hand from local food trucks. Family Fun

Heidi also reminded me about some of these terrific free family fun events taking place in the next week.

The Pflugerville Police Department is hosting its annual Bike Rodeo is coming up on Saturday, April 21, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Bring your kids, their bikes, and safety helmets and head to the Pflugerville High School parking lot.  Officers will be on hand for bike registration, safety instructions and eight different challenges for young bike riders. There will be loaner bicycles available.

The Texas Military Forces welcomes the public to Camp Mabry this weekend, April 21 - 22, 2012 for a FREE Open House, featuring the American Heroes Air Show, America's premier, first responders and helicopter aviation event. The air show profiles first responders and their helicopters' crucial role in law enforcement, public safety, communications, Search and Rescue as well as homeland security and national defense. The Open House kicks off at 7 Saturday morning with a flag raising ceremony, followed by the American Heroes Air Show, and helicopter and K9 Search & Rescue demos. Sunday's events feature a 5K Heroes Run, a church service, as well as another helicopter demo. Both days guests can catch a WWII reenactment, view a traveling Vietnam Wall, and check out living history camps, weapons, military equipment, and vehicle displays in several exhibits and demonstrations. Austin Children's Academy at 12310 Ranch Road North in Austin invites the community to a free movie night on Friday, April 20, 2012. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to watch Rio, starting at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Austin Children's Academy PTA.

Head to Dick Nichols Park at 8011 Beckett Road on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 7 p.m. to take part in The Muppet Movie Sing-a-Long in the Park, presented by The Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow.
Bring your blankets and low lawn chairs to enjoy this free movie.  Concessions will be available. Cash and check donations will be accepted, with 100% of proceeds going to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Empower Art's inaugural Art in the Park event is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Bartholomew Park at 5201 Berkman Drive.  Bring the family to the park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for an afternoon of creative activities for children to enjoy, including music, games, live painting, a miniature interactive “Cathedral of Junk” project and more. Families with children ages 9-12 are encouraged to attend. Empower Art will also be partnering with Art from the Streets, a fellow, volunteer-run Austin nonprofit that provides an outlet for artistic expression for the Austin homeless community. Just Between Friends North Austin group is having its spring sale. This is a Children’s and Maternity Consignment that will take place April 19th through the 21st at the Windermere Event Center  at 15803 Windermere Dr. in Pflugerville.
