You should soon be able to better gage the safety of a particular cruise line.
A new law signed by President Obama aims to boost passenger and crew safety. It requires cruise lines to report allegations of serious crime incidents to the FBI and make those available to the public online.
It will be about a year and a half before this database is up and running. Up until now cruise lines only voluntarily provided this information.
Until then, you may want to check out the comprehensive database of crime reports filed from December 2007 through October 2008 the Sun Sentinel in South Florida has put together. You can sort by crime and by cruise line or cruise ship.
