If you’re still looking for a way to help the Haiti relief effort here’s a way to help without really spending any money.
Three Austin consignment shops have become the first in Texas to support “Sell 1 Thing for Haiti.”
This is a national effort where consignment shops across the country have agreed to donate cash, not gently-used goods to the Haiti relief efforts.
Here’s how it works: you find items you no longer need and bring them to one of the consignment shops on the list.
In Austin you can go to either Design It With Consignment, Lovely Austin Boutique, or Austin Furniture Consignment. Those shops then give the cash you would have gotten from the sale of your items to aid organizations in Haiti—specifically the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund (or another group of your choice).
“The process is simple”, said Danielle Tatro of Lovely Austin Boutique. "Pick 1 thing. Sell 1 thing. Donate the cash. The participating shops have set up special accounts to benefit Haitian relief efforts. Our consignors can bring in items they wish to donate; we will sell the item and send the contribution to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, (or other group of your choice).” Participating shops are donating profits on the charity account to the fund as well.
“This creates a great opportunity for everyone to contribute something—even people who don’t have cash to spare right now, “ says Dan Casey, owner of Austin Furniture Consignment. “Many people have good quality items stored somewhere, that are ‘too good’ to throw away. We are simply providing a way to turn those donations into cash simply, and easily.”
