We all know college costs are soaring. But if you’re looking for the best values in a college education you can find it in many public universities.

Kiplingers recently looked at data from 500 public universities across the country and came up with its list of the best values in public education.

The study considers many factors including academic quality -- including SAT or ACT scores, admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratios, four- and six-year graduation rates plus cost and financial aid. Remember its always a good idea to apply for financial aid and you can do so here.

The University of Texas at Austin came in at number 14, Texas A&M at 23, and the University of Texas at Dallas at 54.

My Alma mater ranked number one. You can see where you or your child’s school ranks here.

Here’s a look at the top 20:

  1. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  2. University of Florida
  3. University of Virginia
  4. College of William and Mary
  5. University of Maryland
  6. Binghamton University
  7. SUNY Geneseo
