Last week the President signed into law a measure to extend the $8,000 first time home buyers tax credit through April 30, 2010. It was scheduled to expire at the end of this month.

He also extended the new home buyer tax incentives to people who have owned a home for at least five years. Meaning if you’re an existing homeowner, you qualify for the new tax credit of up to $6,500 if you have lived in your current residence for five years or more out of the previous eight years and purchase a home or sign a sales contract for one from November 7 to the end of April of next year.

Austin has been pretty lucky on the real estate front. Still I’ve always wondered where people are having the most success selling.

Thanks to Brian Talley of the Regent Property Group, there’s a way to make sense of the numbers. He put together this terrific list  that shows how many homes have sold in various Austin neighborhoods since the beginning of the year.

So here are the top ten neighborhoods and the number of homes that have sold in them since the beginning of 2009:

Circle C    238
Milwood   205
Steiner Ranch   199
Avery Ranch    153
Cherry Creek   133
Village at Western Oaks  124
Brushy Creek   78
Maple Run    77
Scofield Farms  77
Belterra    76
