The FDA announced another egg recall Monday.

Cal-Maine Foods is the nation’s biggest egg distributor. It is recalling 288,000 eggs purchased from Ohio Fresh Eggs after tests detected salmonella at the farm.

The eggs were sold in eight states : Arkansas, California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

They were sold under the names Sunny Meadow (sold at Walmart), Springfield, Sun Valley and James Farm.

Earlier this year more than 500,000,000 eggs were recalled due to salmonella at two Iowa Farms. In that case 1,600 people became ill.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis or arthritis.

If you bought any of these eggs do not eat them, return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Questions and concerns may also be directed to Cal-Maine’s corporate office at 1-866-276-6299 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CDT.
