Tonight Toyota announced it is recalling about 8,000 2010 Tacoma 4WD trucks because of problems with the front shaft.
The company says the trucks front shave may have cracks that developed during the manufacturing process and those cracks may “eventually lead to the separation of the drive shaft at the joint portion.”
The automaker told dealers in some cases the cracks could cause the drive shaft to fall from the truck, causing the vehicle to lose control.
This is only a problem for two specific front drive shaft production lot numbers installed in certain 2010 model year trucks.
Dealers will inspect the trucks and based on that inspection may replace the front drive shaft.
Owners should start getting notices in mid-March 2010.
