The 14th annual Komen Austin Race for the Cure® will be held Sunday, November 4, 2012, in downtown Austin. Registration is now open on the Komen Austin website, www.komenaustin.org
Seventy-five percent of the money raised by Komen Austin fund grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast cancer screening, treatment and education programs for the women and men in Bastrop, Williamson, Caldwell, Hays and Travis counties. The remaining 25 percent supports the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs from around the world.
An estimated 20,000 will gather to support the cause through racing, volunteering and fundraising. Local Austinites of all ages will either walk or run the 5k or family 1 mile in memory of loved ones, to celebrate survivors, and support the Komen Austin promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
