AUSTIN, Texas — We've arrived to the end of the workweek and we finally have some slight relief from the warm and muggy conditions on the way. A cold front is currently sitting over the Central Texas and will bring a drop in temperatures and a wet weekend to the area.
As of early Friday morning, the cold front is sitting in the middle of Central Texas. It hasn't moved south enough to create more comfortable conditions, but we do expect it to drop temperatures into the mid and upper 60s to start the day. Cloudy conditions should keep highs only in the mid-70s for the afternoon. We'll be tracking an isolated shower chance later in the day, but most will remain dry until the weekend rolls around.
Rain chances are on the rise for Saturday as isolated to scattered showers are possible for the first half of the day. Coverage grows more widespread for the evening and overnight hours into Sunday morning. Heavy rainfall will be possible and could lead to flooding concerns. We will also be monitoring the potential for isolated strong storms, especially for the southern half of Central Texas. Rain should come to an end Sunday morning as the cold front moves further to the south.
Our temperatures will trend downward over the weekend with highs in the mid-70s on Saturday and mid-60s on Sunday. Cool and chilly mornings are expected in the lower 50s for Sunday and Monday mornings. We'll gradually warm back up throughout next week.
