What items TSA allows at airports

TSA has a list of items that are allowed to help make the screening process and travel experience go smoothly.

AUSTIN, Texas — As the holidays creep closer, airports across the nation will see an uptick in travelers, including at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA).

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) wants travelers to be prepared before the screening process. On its website, there is a list of allowed items for travelers to help make their travel experience go smoothly.

From items to liquids, rules vary depending on whether travelers are bringing a carry-on bag or a checked bag. One rule that varies is the TSA liquid rule.

Carry-on bag rule: Travelers can bring liquid that is 3.4 ounces or smaller that is placed in a 1-quart-sized resealable bag.

  • Checked bag rule: Travelers can bring liquid that is larger than 3.4 ounces in a checked bag.

You can test your knowledge below with this quiz regarding items the TSA allows or doesn't allow on a plane.

If you are hoping to spice up the holidays, the TSA states that you can bring a bottle of wine on a plane. However, you will be asked to check it in your bag. If you are carrying a bottle that contains 24% to 70% alcohol, you are only allowed 5 liters in its original unopened packaging.

There is a full list surrounding holiday tips when traveling here. You can also find a full list of allowed items on the TSA website.
