Fredericksburg is one of the top Labor Day weekend spots in the U.S., Airbnb says

The popular Hill Country city is one of the top 10 trending places people are looking to flock to this Labor Day weekend.

FREDERICKSBURG, Texas — It should come as no surprise to Central Texas residents: Airbnb says Fredericksburg is one of the top trending destinations for the long weekend.

According to Airbnb data, U.S. travelers are getting out of the city over Labor Day weekend, with more remote areas accounting for 30% of booked trips – almost double the share compared to 2019. Fredericksburg is in the top 10 for trending U.S. destinations. Others in the top 10 include Charleston, South Carolina; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Palm Springs, California; and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Airbnb also said where guests stay matters now more than ever, with unique stays like cabins and tiny homes passing more traditional options in trip searches. Fredericksburg pops up in this area too, with the Live Oak Treehouse at HoneyTree Farm appearing on August's "most wish-listed unique stays" for Airbnb.

And some of the people hoping to travel to Fredericksburg – and perhaps stay in that treehouse – may be from the Hill Country itself. Airbnb said nearby stays within 300 miles of home remain the most popular with guests right now.

What other things are travelers looking for? Airbnb said guests are mostly getting away for short vacation trips to mark the end of summer, but the consideration of longer-term stays is extending into the fall for those able to work from anywhere. And guests want to bring their furry friends along: "allows pets" is the most searched for amenity over the holiday weekend and is continuing to rank highly heading into the fall.

Finally, Airbnb said guests are looking to be a bit more spontaneous and flexible these days. The company said, globally, the average time between a new booking and the stay is 10 days less compared to last year. All this time cooped up at home seems to be making some opt for last-minute stays anywhere else.
