Twitch, the social video platform and community for gamers, announced Monday it is opening a new office in Austin.

The San Francisco-based service said in a release it will open its office in the South Congress neighborhood. Twitch added its focus on Austin “is based on the city’s creative culture and deep pool of engineering and developer talent, including many prominent software and hardware studios.”

Twitch said Director of Product Development Ken Demarest will lead the Austin office, helping game developers use the Twitch platform to drive creativity and revenue.

"Some of the best and brightest engineers are based in Austin, and they have the ability to create cutting edge products that benefit from game broadcasting,” said Demarest in the release. “Our goal is to help developers understand and utilize Twitch’s platform to strengthen their connections with their communities. This initiative also includes building out our product development teams to work closely with the local talent.”

Twitch confirmed to KVUE there are around a half-dozen staffers currently working at the new location. Twitch added it is hiring for several positions at the new office. Go here for more information about available jobs.
