Twins treat 95-year-old fan to birthday celebration

Betty Sandberg celebrated her 95th birthday with 15 of her family and friends from the suite at Target Field.

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota Twins fan Betty Sandberg received her "favorite birthday present ever" from Twins President David St. Peter. She and 15 of her family and friends were able to watch the game on April 10 from a suite.

Betty and her husband always enjoyed watching the Twins on television with her husband and she even continued the tradition after her husband passed away.

She is now a resident at Haven Homes in Maple Plain and her caregivers say she hasn't let her dimming eyesight or limited physical abilities stop her from watching.

Her son Bruce Sandberg says she loves listening to Dick Bremer and Bert Blyleven and was thrilled that Justin Morneau would be joining the broadcast, but the cost of the cable service package was outside of her budget.

Sandberg wrote to Mediacom, Fox Sports North and the Minnesota Twins asking if they could help come up with a solution.

Minnesota Twins President David St. Peter offered her the use of a suite on April 10 at Target Field. The offer came at the perfect time as Betty celebrated her 95th birthday on April 8.

Her daughter Julie Shipman said her mother called it "her favorite birthday present ever."
