AUSTIN – One man has died after Austin-Travis County EMS said his vehicle crashed into a building along North Lamar Boulevard.
EMS and Austin police said they responded to the crash at North Lamar and Justin Lane, which is just south of Airport Boulevard, around 5:30 a.m. Aug. 14. Police said Alexander Roderick Hopkins, 25, was ejected from his Mazda and died at the scene.
Police said their preliminary investigation shows Hopkins was traveling southbound when lost control "at a high rate of speed," left the west side of the road and struck a building. The southbound lanes of Lamar were closed at Airport for around three hours Monday while police investigated the crash.
APD said the crash is still under investigation, and that anyone with information is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8255. This is the 40th fatal crash and 42nd fatality on Austin roads in 2017.
