The Travis County Sheriff's Office has charged a man with murder after his father was found decomposing in a southwest Travis County home.

Court documents for Skye McMillion, 24, state Travis County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home along Sandy Beach Road to check on Steven L. Nurse, 60, around 10:40 a.m. July 23. The victim's supervisor had called the sheriff's office and said he had not shown up for work since July 10.

Deputies spoke to a neighbor of the victim, who provided them with a series of text messages from the victim's phone. The affidavit states deputies located McMillion near the Hill Country Galleria, and that while speaking to him one deputy requested dispatch call the victim's phone. One deputy speaking with McMillion heard a cell phone ringing and saw that it was "displaying the phone number for TCSO dispatch." McMillion allegedly told detectives that he took the victim to Seton Hospital on July 20, and had not communicated with him since.

The affidavit states deputies returned to the victim's home found "a badly decomposed" body on the floor next to the bed in a bedroom, and that it "looked as though salt was poured on the body." According to the affidavit, deputies obtained a search warrant and crime scene technicians located evidence that Nurse's body had been moved from another room into the bedroom, and that the blood had been cleaned.

Initially, McMillion was only charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, a second-degree felony. Officials said they added the additional first-degree murder charge after detectives combed through evidence at the scene and reviewed the autopsy report.

The affidavit also states McMillion was charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury in 2011 after he allegedly hit his father in the head with a shovel while the victim was asleep on the couch.
