AUSTIN – Two more cities will soon have nonstop flights to Austin with ViaAir announcing plans to begin nonstop service to Oklahoma City (OKC) and Tucson, Ariz. (TUS) in January.

ViaAir, which announced winter seasonal flights between Austin and Steamboat Springs/Hayden, Colo. (HDN) in July, said the new flights to both cities will begin Jan. 18, 2018. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) said ViaAir plans to base crews and maintenance at ABIA, and that the move would put ViaAir in a position to further expand its presence in Austin.

“Austin is an amazing, fast-growing city. We are thrilled to bring the convenience of direct flights to the markets of Tucson and Oklahoma City as the start of expanded service in the region. We will roll out additional cities throughout next year as we hope to be known as Austin’s hometown airline,” said ViaAir Vice President of Operations Matthew Macri in a statement.

"These Oklahoma City and Tucson additions bring more options for customers and can ease new business and tourism connections for Central Texans,” added ABIA Executive Director Jim Smith.

The Austin-Oklahoma City flights will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Flights will leave ABIA at 5:05 p.m. and arrive in Oklahoma City at 6:25 p.m., with return flights leaving OKC at 7:10 p.m. and arriving at ABIA at 8:30 p.m.

Austin-Tucson flights will be on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, with flights leaving Austin at 10:50 a.m. and arriving in Tucson at 12:20 p.m. Return flights will leave Tucson at 1:05 p.m. and arrive back in Austin at 4:10 p.m.

Like the AUS-HDN service, flights will depart from ABIA's South Terminal. ViaAir will be working with Embark Aviation to manage the flights, and ViaAir’s website states the airline operates Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft with 50 seats.
