Tens of thousands of people in Central Texas are set to travel this Thanksgiving holiday. And with that, an uptick in traffic at the Austin airport is expected. So what do you need to know to avoid those long wait times?

Wednesday morning had an unexpectedly slow start. KVUE's Michael Perchick reported at around 7 a.m. seeing only a 10- to 15-minute wait at security checkpoints with sporadic increases in traffic.

But travelers should be aware that peak travel times are between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m., between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. If you have a flight during one of those time periods, airport officials urge you to arrive one half hour earlier.

Austin Bergstrom International Airport said Wednesday morning that their long-term parking lots were full. To get updates in real time, call 512-530-3300.
