'Texas Humor' founder launches podcast, interviews governor

Jay B. Sauceda started the podcast, 'Y'all Need This Podcast,' with his 'Texas Humor' team.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Independence Day is Saturday, March 2. And the annual parade in Austin starts at 9:30 a.m. on Congress Avenue.

But, the people behind the popular social media account Texas Humor started celebrating early, as they launched their new podcast, “Y’all Need This Podcast.”

Jay B. Sauceda is the man behind the memes.

"We've been looking for a way to engage our audience in a longer format,” he said.

For the podcast, Sauceda interviewed Governor Greg Abbott.

“What better person to lead us into March 2 than the leader of the state?” Sauceda said. “I got to ask some questions that I don't think he's typically asked."

Such as: What's the best part of the governor's mansion?

“The balcony above it,” Gov. Abbott said in the podcast.

“Oh yeah?” Sauceda asked.

“Sometimes, I'll go up there, crack open a beer, sit on the balcony and just take it all in,” Gov. Abbott said.

“Can you shoot me a text next time you're doing that?” Sauceda asked. “I'll cruise down and get an Uber real quickly.”

Sauceda said the weekly podcast will not be political, but will feature interesting folks from across the state, such as “Nice Kicks” founder Matt Halfhill and musician Kyle Park.

"In some of the episodes, we really want it to be about what we're hearing or seeing on social media,” Sauceda said.

What better way to start it than on a weekend so uniquely Texan, the weekend of Texas Independence Day.

“I think just being able to look at that and step back every year is a really important thing for Texans to be able to do,” Sauceda said. “Not a lot of states have the kind of history that we have. And that's a special thing."

You can listen to the podcast on iTunes, Spotify and on Texas Humor's website.
