Texas State student accused of driving drunk, killing man, unborn child enters guilty plea

A woman accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a man and unborn baby and injured the mother entered a guilty plea Monday.

A Texas State University student who allegedly drove drunk before crashing head-on into a car in August of 2016, killing a woman's husband and their unborn baby in San Marcos, entered a guilty plea.

On March 5, Shana Elliott entered a plea of guilty for two counts of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. A jury has been selected and they will decide her punishment March 6. Her punishment could range from probation to 20 years behind bars.

Police said that on Aug. 2, 2016, Elliott was driving along Highway 21 when she allegedly crossed the center line and struck a Corolla that was traveling in the opposite direction. She allegedly told police that she had just finished floating the river at Texas State Tubes, where she drank beer and liquor.

Geurrero-Moreno died shortly after the crash and Guerrero, who was five-months pregnant, was taken to St. David's South Austin Medical Center for treatment. Her unborn child did not survive.

It's unclear if Elliott will testify at the trial that starts at 9 a.m. March 6.
