Minneapolis-based Sun Country Airlines will begin seasonal service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s South Terminal in August, the airline and City of Austin announced.
Sun Country will be the third airline to use ABIA’s South Terminal, joining Allegiant Air and Texas Sky Public Charters, both of which have signed up to use the terminal. Flights between ABIA and Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) will run Aug. 31 to Dec. 10 on 737-800 aircraft.
“From the Land of 10,000 Lakes to the Live Music Capital of the World, we welcome Sun Country Airlines’ new nonstop between Austin and Minneapolis-St. Paul,” said Jim Smith, Executive Director Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, in a release.
“We’re delighted to welcome Sun Country to Austin and the South Terminal at ABIA,” said Jeff Pearse, CEO of LoneStar Airport Holdings, LLC, the developer and operator of the South Terminal. “The South Terminal’s intimate and retro-vibe will offer Sun Country’s passengers an airport experience as unique as Austin!”
"We look forward to giving our customers the opportunity to fly nonstop to the capital of the Lone Star State by servicing the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport," said Zarir Erani, Sun Country Airlines President and CEO. "Our Midwest travelers can now experience Austin's thriving music, entertainment, cuisine and culture, while bringing our southern travelers up north to experience the museums, shopping and great outdoors of Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area.”
Flights from Minneapolis will depart on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. and arrive in Austin at 6:15 p.m., beginning Aug. 31. Austin to Minneapolis flights will leave Sundays at 11 a.m. and arrive at 1:35 p.m., beginning Sept. 3.
The airline’s announcement was part of the airline’s seasonal expansion that also included August-December flights to Santa Rosa/Sonoma County, Calif.
