St. David's Medical Center is doing its part to help victims affected by historic flooding in the Houston area following Hurricane Harvey.
Not only did the hospital transport infants from NICU departments in Houston to Austin, but they also are treating more than 170 patients that live in Hurricane Harvey disaster areas, a spokesperson for St. David's Healthcare said.
The nearly 200 patients being treated have conditions ranging from minor conditions to serious heart problems. In some cases, there are also patients that require ongoing care, officials said.
A spokesperson for the hospital said the number of patients needing assistance may increase because of the fluidity of the weather event. Currently, they have a representative at Austin's Emergency Operations Center and will route patients to their facility as needed.
Dell Children's Medical Center also helped victims in the path of Hurricane Harvey before it made landfall. The hospital transported seven babies from a NICU in Corpus Christi Friday, Aug. 25.
