A seventh grader is in custody after a gun was found in a backpack at Grisham Middle School, Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said Friday.

Sheriff Chody made the announcement on Twitter, saying the suspect was in custody and no one was injured.

In a media release, Grisham Middle School Principal Page Hadziselimovic said a loaded 9mm handgun was found in the student's backpack after it was reported from another student. Hadziselimovic said the incident was immediately reported to the Williamson County Sheriff's Department and the student was questioned and arrested, though there was no indication that any students were threatened at the time.

"It is a collective effort to keep our campus environment the safest one possible and we commend the student who made the initial report," said Hadziselimovic. "To keep our campus safe, we need the assistance of our parents, students, and staff."

She also urged students to immediately report anything suspicious to an adult on campus.

"The safety of our students and staff at the school is of paramount importance," Hadziselimovic said. "Please help us reinforce this message. Only working together can our students, parents, and staff keep our campus safe."
