Seven-year-old sets to break world record climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro

One 7-year-old girl is on a mission to break a world record.

Montannah Kenney and her mom, Hollie, are heading on a mother-daughter trip of a lifetime.

They leave for Mount Kilimanjaro on Tuesday morning in hopes of breaking a world record.

Montannah would be the youngest female to climb to the summit if she succeeds.

“I had asked a couple of friends if they had wanted to do it,” said Hollie. “And then [Montannah] chimed in saying she was interested, and I looked at her, and I laughed and said ‘Oh, you have to be way older to do this.’”

They learned a 7-year-old boy had accomplished the feat with his parents before, so the planning began.

A lot of preparation needed to happen for their 9-day hike.

Both say it will be okay even if they don’t make it to the top. However, they aren’t just doing the climb in hopes of breaking a world record.

They also want to connect with Montannah’s father and Hollie’s husband, who died when Montannah was 3-years-old.

“And this is probably something he would have liked to have done. He was an endurance athlete, just like you,” said Hollie, giggling with Montannah.

Montannah said she’s very excited to waive to her dad in Heaven.

“So, Montannah, the higher we go on the mountain the closer to the sun we'll be, and we'll be way above the clouds,” Hollie said, as they rested on a rock during their hike. “What else will we be closer to?”

“Closer to Daddy,” Montannah answered.

“Why? Where does Daddy live?" Hollie asked.

“In Heaven,” Montannah replied with a smile.
