One of the largest telecommunications company could grow exponentially if a new deal is struck.

According to the Wall Street Journal, AT&T is in “advanced talks to acquire Time Warner, Inc.” The WSJ said a deal between the two companies could come as early as this weekend. A combination of the two companies would give AT&T control over Time Warner’s entertainment companies including HBO and Warner Brothers film/TV.

The deal could impact cable consumers in Austin where AT&T is one of the larger cable providers. Time Warner recently completed a merger with Charter Communications helping it become one of the largest cable internet providers in the nation.

Any possible deal between the two companies would face scrutiny from federal regulators as AT&T could become one of the two largest cable providers, alongside Comcast, in the nation.
