City officials issued a precautionary rabies alert after a dead bat was found in downtown Buda Wednesday.

The bat was found around 10 a.m. on Sept. 6 on the ground in the 760 block of Main St.

Officials said the bat was so badly decomposed that it was impossible to test for rabies, so the alert was issued as a precaution.

If anyone thinks they may have come into contact with the animal, they should call the City of Buda Animal Control at 512-312-1001, the Hays County Health Department at 512-393-5525 or the Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Control at 254-778-6744.

Another bat was found last week outside of the Creekside Villas Senior Village at 590 FM 967.
