A man accused of fleeing the scene of a crash Wednesday night, died in a single-vehicle rollover wreck shortly afterward, according to The City of Kyle.
The city identified the deceased as Michael Alan Rentz of Kyle Thursday morning.
Kyle police said they were initially dispatched for a possible hit and run on Beebee Road near Fountain Grove at 11:50 p.m.
At the scene, officers said they found Rentz, lying outside of his vehicle deceased at Beebee and I-35 East Frontage Road. According to a release, a witness claimed to have pulled Rentz out of the vehicle without knowing he was dead.
Police said their investigation into the crash revealed that Rentz was involved in a minor crash with another vehicle prior to the rollover crash. Police said the driver of the car that was struck watched Rentz speed from the scene and slide up a guardrail before rolling the vehicle over multiple times.
Other witnesses supported the driver's claim that Rentz was driving at a high rate of speed when his car hit the guardrail.
As of Thursday morning, no criminal charges are pending in this case. An autopsy report has been ordered for Rentz.
