Police have arrested the suspect in a series of sexual assaults in North Austin and are asking for more victims to come forward.
APD said that the Sex Crimes Unit has received a number of sexual assault reports in the area of Georgian Drive since October 2016, and on Tuesday identified the suspect as Wahab Salem Thejeil, 32.
Police affidavits for Thejeil state that one victim reported that he attempted to assault her at a bus stop near Georgian Drive and Rundberg Lane on Oct. 7. Police records file the report as assault by strangulation. The same victim called 911 again on March 26, 2017, after she came upon an assault taking place. She told police the suspect threw a rock at her, hitting her in the back. As the victim was fleeing from Thejeil, she said she saw him carrying a knife, and that she was able to hide and call for help. The affidavit also stated the victim in the Oct and March assaults was able to locate the suspect on Facebook.
Police stated that on May 28, 2017, APD responded to another attack on a transgender person and that the victim was able to get a license plate that police say belonged to Thejeil.
In their initial report of the assaults, police said Thejeil targeted women late at night and early in the morning. He would get victims into his vehicle and request sexual favors. When the victims refused, Thejeil would become violent and assault the victims.
Two of the three known victims are members of the Transgender community, APD said, and that they believe there are more victims who did not report the attacks going back as far as Jan. 2016.
Thejeil is currently in custody, and online records at the Travis County Jail state he is being held on combined $125,000 bond.
APD's Sex Crimes Unit is asking members of the community to come forward with any information regarding sexual assaults or attempted sexual assaults in the area.
