Department of Public Safety officials have identified the pedestrian who was critically injured in a motorcycle crash in east Travis County that killed a man Wednesday evening.
Authorities said Anthony Ray Navarro, 47, of Del Valle was critically injured in the crash near FM 969 and FM 973. DPS said Julio-Oscar Gomez Torres, 25, was traveling southbound on FM 973 on a motorcycle and a SUV was traveling northbound around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 4. Witnesses told officers that the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles in a no-passing zone. Torres seemed to notice the SUV in front of him and attempted to lay the motorcycle on the right side to avoid crashing. Torres was not able to avoid the SUV and crashed, and Austin-Travis County EMS said he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Navarro was originally believed to be a passenger on the motorcycle, but DPS said Thursday evening that he may have been a pedestrian. EMS said Navarro was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries.
