The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a Travis County inmate. Officials said the death does not appear to be suspicious but are investigating it because of the Sandra Bland Act.

The Travis County Sheriff's Office said that Herman Titus, 21, died in custody on the morning of June 19. He died shortly after being transported to the hospital.

TCSO said that the cause of death would be released when it is determined by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office. They did, however, say that no evidence indicated that the death was suspicious.

Due to the passage of the Sandra Bland Act, TCSO requested the Texas Rangers investigate Titus' death. The Sandra Bland Act, in part, mandates that independent organizations investigate deaths of inmates in custody.

Titus was booked into the Travis County Jail on May 23 on charges of intoxication assault and parole violation.
