Authorities have identified the 79-year-old man who died after crashing his vehicle into a tree Monday morning in Oak Hill.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety, Sherrell Don Cole was driving eastbound on Towana Trail near U.S. 290 and Highway 71 at around 10:30 a.m. when he straightened out the right curve in the roadway. DPS said he crossed over to the left side of the roadway and drove off the road. He then collided with some trash cans as he crossed over the driveways of residences, DPS said.
His vehicle then turned clockwise before the left side of the vehicle crashed into a tree and came to rest in the shoulder of the road.
Cole died at the scene of the crash.
