AUSTIN -- A man is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child after the child's guardian became aware of the abuse, according to a Williamson County arrest affidavit.

Christopher Lawrence Miller, 38, is accused of abusing a child after her mother would let her stay at a friend's apartment. Miller lived in the apartment above the child, and is husband to the mother's friend.

The mother was unable to care for the child, according to the arrest affidavit. The guardian told police the child's mother had numerous mental health and substance abuse issues, according to the affidavit.

On Jan. 16, 2015, the guardian called police after becoming aware of the abuse that happened several years ago, according to the arrest affidavit.

Ten days after the guardian reported the abuse, the child was forensically interviewed at the Travis County Center for Child Protection. The child told officials when she was 8 or 9 years old she was raped by a man named "Chris." She identified Chris as the husband of her mother's friend who lived upstairs.

Miller is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. His bond is set at $350,000.
