From Hurricane Harvey to other natural disasters and tragedies, many of us have spent our time and money giving back to those who need it most. Now, the holiday season has come around and some local charities report they're not getting the donations they need because of those recent tragedies. One of these charities is Amber's Angels.

The non-profit organization was started by Amber Fett, who was born with cystic fibrosis and spent several holidays in the hospital getting treatment for the disorder.

"That means they're on IVs 24/7 for 14 days," said Debbie Fett, Amber's mom.

During one of their stays in 1996, then 7-year-old Amber and her mom met a young girl crying in a hospital playroom.

"The little girl said, 'Well I think I must have been bad' and Amber was like, 'What do you mean?' And she said, 'Well I didn't get anything from Santa,'" Debbie said.

Amber re-wrapped the presents she was given that year and brought them to the little girl's room.

"The little girl saw on the tag her name and she got all excited," Debbie said. "Amber was watching her and getting all excited with her and there was not a dry eye in the room."

That's when Amber's Angels was born. Every year, the non-profit gives presents to children having to stay in hospitals during the holidays.

Amber participated until 2011 when she died at 22 following a lung transplant rejection.

"Two days before she passed away I told her, 'Hey Amber, let's postpone doing Amber's Angels this year until you get better," Debbie said. "She started crying and said, 'No you got to promise me that you'll do Amber's Angels.'"

This year, keeping that promise has been hard.

"With all the hurricanes and the shootings and everything that is going on in the world, everybody is stretched thin," Debbie said.

Debbie said she's not getting the donations she needs.

"We have 279 gift bags to make this year," Debbie said. "I think maybe if I'm lucky I have 75 right now done."

She's hoping that by getting the word out, more people will donate to her cause. She doesn't want to let down the children or her daughter
