An Elgin man truly hit the jackpot when he claimed a top prizewinning ticket, worth $1,000 per week for the next 20 years, in the Texas Lottery scratch ticket game, Weekly Grand.
Jose Ariza Millan opted for the cash value option and will receive the money in one lump sum payment of $831,757.16.
Millan's not the only one who walked away with a great deal. Citgo Food Mart, located at 301 South Main St. in Elgin, is also eligible for a $10,000 retailer bonus: they're the ones that sold the winning ticket.
Millan claimed four out of five top prizes available in the game.
Weekly Grand offers more than $49 million in total prizes. Overall odds of winning any prize in the game are one in 3.95, which includes break-even prizes.
The first Texas Lottery ticket was sold in 1992, and since then has generated $27 billion in revenue for the state, and distributed $50 billion in prizes to lottery players. Since 1997, the Texas Lottery has also contributed $21 billion to the Foundation School Fund, supporting public education in Texas.
