A man getting ready to be released from jail was found dead in his cell Oct. 20, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said Dennis Rogers, 46, had finished lunch and was getting ready to be released from the Travis County Correctional Complex when was found unresponsive in his cell. Lifesaving measures were taken, but Rogers was pronounced deceased around 3:40 p.m. Rogers had just been sentenced to 10 days in jail and was due to be released after being credited for time served.

Per standard practice, the Major Crimes Unit and Internal Affairs Unit of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office are investigating Rogers’ death. Detectives reported there was no indication or evidence of traumatic injury or foul play. The early examination indicates the death to be of natural causes, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The sheriff’s office added this is the third death in custody for the sheriff’s office in 2016.
