Hays County Judge Bert Cobb on Tuesday reinstated the burn ban for unincorporated areas of the county, effective immediately.

The county said Judge Cobb consulted with County Fire Marshal Clint Browning before issuing the burn ban. The decision was made based on continuing high winds and low humidity through much of the county. Dry grass fuel has also been observed in much of the county.

Under the ban, grills with lids can be used, but burn barrels cannot even if they have a lid. Violators of the burn ban can face a fine of up to $500.
