A Georgetown elementary school is still under construction as students return to school.
Students went back to school at Annie Purl Elementary last week and had to eat in their classrooms on Thursday and Friday while bagged meals were delivered to them, said Suzanne Marchman -- the spokesperson for Georgetown Independent School District. Over the weekend, however, the cafeteria was completed and children were able to eat there Monday, she said.
As for the gym, it is still being constructed, but should be done in the next couple of days, the spokesperson said. In the meantime, P.E. classes are being held outside.
The school said all bathrooms are working, while outdoor canopies are currently being built so kids can shade themselves from the sun. Marchman said students have been allowed to stand inside the school to wait for their parents to come pick them up.
The district said the construction has not disrupted any learning or safety.
