Georgetown ISD administrators confirmed Thursday that an 18-year-old student was arrested after being accused of bringing a handgun to school.
Georgetown ISD Chief Communications Officer Suzanne Marchman said that at approximately 1:15 p.m., campus administrators received a report from a student that another student brought a handgun to Georgetown High School. She said police responded, immediately identified and detained the accused student.
Marchman said the student did not threaten anyone, though he was found in possession of a .22-caliber handgun.
The Georgetown Police Department identified the student as Christian Lima. Police said the loaded gun was found in his pocket and that the school was not placed on lockdown due to the fact that officers immediately located him. Officials said they are still investigating why Lima may have brought the weapon to school.
Lima was charged with places weapons prohibited, a second-degree felony.
